3 live music family events for Christmas 2017

Raymond Gubbay presents Christmas Carol Singalong at Royal Albert Hall
One of the Christmas events I know other families go to every year, but I’ve not experienced yet, is the Christmas Carol Singalong at Royal Albert Hall. Jonathan Cohen leads the audience through a jamboree of his most-loved carols and all-time Christmas hits, including family favourites like Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Jingle Bells. It sounds like so much fun, and I know friends who go bring tinsel and decorations to decorate their seats for this truly festive event. There are Christmas Carol Singalong performances at Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 16 December at 12.30pm and 4.15pm, Thursday 21 December at 2.30pm, Friday 22 December at 2.30pm, Saturday 23 December at 12.30pm and 4.15pm.

The Snowman and Carnival of the Animals at Cadogan Hall
On 20 December, families can enjoy a festive treat at Sloane Square’s Cadogan Hall with a screening of The Snowman and live soundtrack by the Mozart Symphony Orchestra. The event, recommended for ages 4 and over, also features Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, which will include fun surprises like poetry by Ogden Nash and others, Christmas jokes and cartoon animations projected onto a screen above the orchestra. There are two performances to choose from – 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

Father Christmas and Peter and the Wolf at Cadogan Hall
On 21 December, Sloane Square’s Cadogan Hall is hosting another event suitable for families–a screening of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas on the big screen with live orchestral accompaniment from the Mozart Symphony Orchestra and actors providing the dialogue and sound effects. The event, recommended for ages 4 and over, also features Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, the tale of one small boy’s bravery against a wild wolf . There are two performances to choose from – 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
