Celebrating DVD release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul with trip to Kew Little Pigs

On Monday morning I packed the kids lunch boxes, located all our wellies and filled the car with everything we owned that could count as waterproof clothes. We were ready to go on an unmissable road trip, celebrating the DVD release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (see picture from the film below).

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul is available now on Blu-ray and DVD, from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, and the funny family film tells the story about The Heffley family’s road trip to Meemaw’s 90th birthday celebration. In the film, Greg and his younger brother are given a pig, who join them on the cross-country adventure.

We didn’t exactly travel cross-country on Monday, but we made the 50-minute journey to Kew Little Pigs in Amersham, where we had been invited to a bespoke pet and play session to celebrate the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul DVD release.

After arriving and covering up in our waterproofs, we were guided around the farm to see the large number of pigs. There were little pigs, spotty pigs, pregnant pigs, a pig who enjoyed modelling, goats and chickens. After the short tour, the rest of the experience was all about getting stuck in. We got to walk in and out of the pig pens, making sure we closed the gates behind us, and the kids were carrying a brush each to brush and pet the friendly pigs.

I’ve never been happier to wear wellies before when I noticed the thick mud we were getting into, but I quickly realised that a muddy adventure made for an incredibly fun day out for the children. For Big Girl and Big Boy this was a truly unique experience, escaping city life and getting much closer to the animals than we do at traditional farms.

We started with a couple of falls in the sticky mud that was at times difficult to walk in, but we gradually got more confident, and by the end Big Girl was practically sitting down next to the little pigs. A brilliant way to get close to nature and kickstart half term!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul is available now in time for half-term on Blu-ray and DVD, from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Kew Little Pigs offers a variety of experiences at the farm, and they also do children’s birthday party entertainment.
