Donating unwanted children’s clothes for Mother’s Day

I know what I’ll be doing this weekend. I’m heading to the JoJo Maman Bebe shop on Chelsea Green to drop off a pack of pink baby clothes we no longer need now we know we’re having a boy next.

I came up with this plan after attending a press event for the new charity initiative From a Mother to Another, which involves JoJo Maman Bebe working with environmental charity Hubbub and children’s charity Barnardo’s in the run up to Mother’s Day, and this is an campaign I’d like to support.

As part of the initiative JoJo Maman Bebe is accepting unwanted children’s clothes in all shops until Mother’s Day on 15 March. The clothes will be sent to the JoJo Maman Bebe warehouse where they will be packed in gift boxes and then distributed as gifts to mums. The aim is to help vulnerable families in the UK and reducing clothing waste at the same time, and although this is the first year of From a Mother to Another, the aim is for this to become a yearly initiative supported by mums around the country.

On Tuesday JoJo Maman Bebe had a van at Somerset House where they packed up unwanted clothes in the lovely gift boxes on site, and even JoJo Maman Bebe founder Laura Tenison helped out (see picture above).

The next step is for Barnardo’s to get all the gift boxes out to the right families. At the event, we heard how much these clothes are needed and how Barnardo’s experience of working with vulnerable people in society is still that most mums always want their best for their children, making the gift boxes truly special to the recipients.

I think this is a brilliant Mother’s Day initiative, which I look forward to supporting in years to come.

If you can support From a Mother to Another, collect your clean, unwanted children’s clothes in sizes 0-6 years, sort them by gender, size and season, bag them up and take them to your nearest JoJo Maman Bebe shop. For every pack of gifted clothing, you receive a £5 JoJo voucher valid on a minimum spend of £20. To qualify for a voucher, each pack should contain a good gift set with between six and 12 items. JoJo Maman Bebe has shops in both Chelsea and Battersea.
