Encouraging toddler to eat more at tea time

Pasta pesto green beans dinnerDaddy T used to be determined to have food served at the right temperature. Sauces had to be kept on the hob to ensure they didn’t get cold if he were to crave a second serving, and drinks had to be cold, ideally with ice.

On Monday, however, he ate his hollandaise sauce cold and he emptied a glass of lukewarm sparkling water. That’s what it’s like being a hard-working dad.

In the last week, I’ve noticed that Baby Girl seems to eat more if we have tea together, and this is now possible since we can cook one meal for all three of us and she can eat finger food without help.

It also works well for me, as it makes our evenings feel longer, and we avoid stuffing ourselves with a heavy meal at 9.30 in the evening.

But it’s perhaps not so good for Daddy T. He doesn’t usually get home until two hours after we’ve finished our tea, so his plate is simply standing there looking more and more miserable by the second.

Still, the important point is that his tea is ready. No point being picky when there’s food on the table.
