Establishing a sleep routine

Baby Girl and I seem to have slightly different ideas about the meaning of ‘back to sleep’. Last week we started working towards establishing a newborn routine. Our maternity consultant Hattie has given us a guide with timings suitable for Baby Girl’s age, specifying when she should feed, play, have a bath, sleep and so on.

Baby Girl and I both agree when it comes to setting aside time for feeding and bathing – her two favourite activities. The problem is sleeping. She sometimes seems to confuse sleeping with crying, which I can’t see mentioned anywhere in the routine.

Yesterday was a particularly bad day. We had gotten to the late morning ‘back to sleep’ section, and Baby Girl was in the pram ready to go out.

My plan was to go for breakfast at Poilane by Sloane Square. Her plan was to get out of the pram and lie over my shoulder, looking at the world around her for a good hour.

And even if Daddy T thinks so, I’m clearly no longer the boss in this house.
