First aid for babies – and dads

Daddy T must have felt there was a need to test my first aid skills. At least I can’t see any other reason for why he would be clumsy enough to cut himself on his razor in the airport security control. It’s apparently so uncommon that they didn’t even have a plaster to offer him there.

But we’re much better equipped. To prepare for Baby Girl’s arrival, we bought a large selection of bandages, cool packs, dressings, safety pins, tweezers, cleansing wipes, eyewash pods and bravery stickers from Baby Aid.

The problem on Friday was that we’ve never had to open the kit before, and we’ve bought so much stuff that I panicked about what bandage to use. Three months ago we didn’t own a single bandage – now I suddenly found I had three packs to choose from.

To fix the problem, I had to use a lifeline. I chose the Phone-a-Friend option, and called our doctor friend to get advice on how to stop the bleeding and dress the wound. Daddy T was soon sitting with his hand over his head, and I managed to locate gauze, Microporous tape and conforming bandage.

Now that I have a bit more knowledge about the first aid kit content, I think I will manage without the lifeline next time – or perhaps I will still have to go 50-50 when it comes to choosing dressings.

Thank you, Vicki! It was actually Daddy T who was on his way home from a work trip when it happened. He came home with a very blood-stained finger and expected me to sort it out when it started bleeding again.. But we had bought everything that was on the list we received when we did the New Baby Company First Aid course, so we felt we were well-equipped! xx
