First time with baby at airport

Baby Girl and I both talk a lot. We just don’t always understand each other. When we parked our car at Heathrow on Thursday we had a complete breakdown in communication.

Baby Girl was asleep and I put her down in her brand new Maclaren Quest stroller on a Bowron lambskin fleece. To me, it looked like a seriously comfortable way to be whisked through the airport. To her, it seemed to be the last place she wanted to be.

Baby Girl woke up immediately after she was strapped into the stroller. She then screamed all the way from the short stay parking lot to the check-in area. It was difficult to push the stroller and keep a straight face.

Instead, I picked her up and put her over my shoulder. She was on my shoulder as we checked in, walked through security, picked up toiletries in Boots, had dinner in the lounge and boarded the plane. From her favourite shoulder, she was constantly looking around – so much that several people came up to us and commented on how alert she was.

We clearly had different views on the best way to travel. I wanted the trip to be germ-free and efficient. She wanted to explore. But I guess I can’t blame her for wanting to see as much as possible of Terminal 5 – it’s one of my favourite places too.
