How to prepare for bathtime with newborn

Yesterday I created a baby bath station in our bathroom to see if we had what we needed for Baby Boy to start splashing around, and I’m very excited to get back into baby bathtime routines again.

Last time, we were very pleased we had bought the foldable baby bath Flexi Bath, and we’ll be using this again now. I think this is the most practical bath for anyone who’s like us and wants to be able to stow it away when it’s not in use. We used it for the first 10-12 weeks, and I wouldn’t have wanted to be without a baby bath in the beginning. The Flexi Bath, now part of Stokke, is easy to fill and empty, and I would have felt it would have been too much to bath baby in a bath tub in the early days.

In the Flexi Bath, we used a towelling bath support (similar in style to the one from John Lewis), which is ideal to use when bathing newborns, and I remember I could have one arm behind baby and one hand for pouring water over baby–first with my hand and later with a SkipHop duck.

The bath support we have is small and easy to store, and the towel on the bath support is quick-drying and machine-washable, but it’s a bit fiddly to get on. I’ve noticed there are several plastic ones available now too, so they would probably also be good options although some look more bulky.

I also think it’s worth having around 3 hooded towels and some cloths or natural sponges. I recently received an apron-style Cuddledry towel to review, which is super soft, and I’ve heard good things about using the Cuddledry towels for newborns, so I’m excited about starting to use it.

I loved Weleda Calendula Shampoo and Bodywash last time, and I recently learnt it’s Weleda’s best selling product, which didn’t surprise me. I’ve bought a new one again now, and I’ve also received one as a sample.

In addition, luxurious organic baby skincare range Little Butterfly London has a Floating on Clouds Bedtime Bathmilk, which I’ve received as a sample, and this is also a product I’m really excited about. It smells lovely, and a bathmilk seems practical for use when bathing baby.

What’s missing now is the rubber duck and bath thermometer!
