L.O.L Surprise launches in the UK

One of my main takeaways from the London Toy Fair this year was that the collectable toy trend is here to stay, and considering what I’ve seen launching now I can see myself contributing to that trend.

On Monday four-year-old Big Girl and I were excitedly watching the unwrapping of the newest collectable taking the US by storm, L.O.L. Surprise from MGA Entertainment. L.O.L. Surprise is a doll brand, and there are 45 dolls to collect (£8 each).

They’re practically like a very advanced Kinder Egg without the chocolate. They come in a round egg–much bigger than a Kinder Egg–and there are 7 surprises to uncover inside. The first two layers are stickers and a clue to which doll is inside, and then the excitement starts.

There are little blind bags hidden in pockets in the egg and in the middle of the egg. Each blind bag contains shoes, a baby bottle, an accessory, clothes and the actual doll. The egg itself can be transformed to a little handbag for storing the doll and when open it can be a bath tub in one half and a play area in the other.

Big Girl received two to review at the launch, and she was extremely excited when opening the cute dolls and all the little mix and match accessories. Her ones were dance-themed dolls–one a ballerina and one a line dancer.

I find it a little bit strange that they are babies, but look grown-up in terms of their individuality and professions, but Big Girl doesn’t mind this at all. The dolls have been going out and about with us, and I know we’ll be buying more of them going forward for both Big Girl and gifts to girls from her age and above.

In fact, when I was travelling with the kids the other day, I was hoping to find L.O.L. Surprise Dolls in Heathrow as I wanted to get six of them to give to friends’ daughters we were visiting on our trip abroad.

One to watch!
