Review: Primary Science Shining Stars Projector from Learning Resources now for dinosaur fans

Shining Stars ProjectorOn Monday evening I was busy writing and drawing on little speech cards for my four-year-old. A couple of hours earlier she had mentioned that she had missed her show-and-tell date, which had been the week before, and had been given a new date but could not remember if that date was tomorrow or a different day.

Great point to bring up just before bedtime.

I got really frustrated with myself for having mixed up the original dates–especially since Big Girl had received a new gadget for her presentation, which she had been excited about taking to school. She had received the Primary Science Shining Stars Projector (£20) from Learning Resources, which is part of their science range designed to be easy-to-use for young children.

The projector comes with three space-themed discs with eight images on each, and this year, Learning Resources has also released Primary Science Jungle Animals, Dinosaurs and Ocean Life Projector Discs (£6), which can be used with the Shining Stars Projector.

For us, these were the main draw right now, as dinosaurs was a big thing at the moment. They mean the projector can be used to talk about a larger variety of topics that interest young children, and the projector, which Big Girl can easily use without help, creates a fun way to display the images and understand the concept of projecting an image onto a screen.

When she moves the projector closer to the screen she can see the bigger version of the images, and when she goes further away she can see the images become smaller.

On Monday we ensured the two of us dived straight into the task of preparing a presentation about the dinosaurs she had on the disc. We practised dinosaur names and found facts together, putting together a list of what she could say. I was a bit worried she would struggle to remember so at 11pm that night Daddy T and I ended up cutting and gluing and preparing some little note cards.

Family fun for all!

The dinosaurs featured on the disc are Brontosaurus, Dilong, Diplodocus, Kentrosaurus, Spinosaurus, Styracosaurs, Suchomimus, T-Rex
