How to make travelling with children easier at sleep-time

When I turned up at a 9.30pm flight with Baby Girl in tow the other week, I felt a little bit out of place. I usually try avoiding late-night short-haul flights with her, but this time we wanted to take a risk to avoid missing an important school happening.

When booking I hadn’t really thought it through though. Baby Girl would definitely have to sleep on the plane.

She had her own seat, but we weren’t travelling business class and on a busy flight, it’s not always possible to get a cushion and blanket in economy. That’s why I was thrilled when I remembered I had brought a sample I’d received from Trunki–SnooziHedz a character that unzips to reveal a travel blanket and pillow set (£19.99).

It makes it easier for her to sleep when I’m able to create a comfortable sleeping environment for her, and when Baby Girl was little and sleeping in my lap I used to always travel with SkyBaby– a baby travel mattress I like so much that we now have a company with distribution rights for SkyBaby in several countries.

Now that she’s older, I could see how a travel blanket and cushion set is a practical option for pre-schoolers and older children. Baby Girl had a separate seat on the flight, and she looked pretty comfortable with the inflatable cushion and fleece blanket, which can be attached to the cushion to avoid it slipping off. The set is light and compact, so it’s easy to fit in carry-on luggage, and it would also be practical to use for car or train journeys if we take any longer trips.

Happy travelling!
