Making homemade baby purees

Vegetable PureeI think Baby Girl had around 60ml of the puree I made for her yesterday. That’s one hour and 20 minutes I’ll never get back.

Since Baby Girl needs to eat more solids, I’ve been trying to give her a bigger meal for dinner, and I’ve also tried to find some new and interesting recipes for her. This is why I found myself making chicken casserole for the very first time on Thursday.

I had all the ten ingredients needed for the Annabel Karmel chicken casserole recipe and was excited about getting started. Baby Girl was in her high chair in the kitchen with me, and I had planned to finish her food in half an hour. I assumed washing, peeling and chopping would take seconds, and cooking would be quick.

But it wasn’t. The whole thing, which resulted in 12 portions of chicken casserole in the freezer, took me one hour and twenty minutes to make, as I had to take an awful lot of breaks – some to sing and dance to entertain the seven-month old in the high-chair, some to pick up pieces of baby rice cakes I had been feeding her to keep her happy and some to clean and change her nappy.

I have a feeling someone will be eating a lot of chicken casserole in the next two weeks.

There is one noticeable paradox when it comes to raising kids – on one hand we tend to make everything faster, we have our eyes all over our head, too but then on the other hand some simple actions get more complicated, we are distracted and cooking takes a lot more time than it did before…:)
