Taking toddler to Monkey Music Classes in Chelsea and Fulham

‘Where’s monkey hiding, mummy?’

Baby Girl was so excited. She had been invited to go to a Monkey Music taster session, and she’d actually managed to put down her half-eaten Peggy Porschen chocolate heaven cupcake and run up Elizabeth Street in Belgravia to St Michael’s Church.

We were a few minutes early and joined the other children, mummies and nannies in the hall where there was a mini climbing frame and slide. Baby Girl was over the moon. She had been to weekly Monkey Music classes for a full year, but not in the last term when we’d had a lot on, and I’d felt a bit guilty about not taking her since she’d regularly been singing songs from the classes. And by the time we arrived I realised that the Monkey Music room in St Michael’s Church was definitely where she wanted to spend a Wednesday afternoon.

When the class started, I also noticed the lovely Monkey Music teacher Jayne was super popular with the children. Several little ones wanted to give her a hug and she knew everyone’s names, which is pretty amazing considering how many children she must see every week.

We got straight into the singing and dancing, and 29-month-old Baby Girl and the other children were encouraged to bend knees, reach high, wiggle their hips and do lots of fun movements. In addition to getting children up on their feet, the class was good for teaching colours, body parts, and learning new skills, such as taking the first steps to recognising the names and sounds of different musical instruments. The class for 2 to 3-year-olds is also aimed at encouraging little ones to talk and develop their language skills, and there were plenty of opportunities for Baby Girl to answer questions–particularly related to the current theme of ‘dressing up’.

Monkey Music offers interactive music classes teaching young children new skills, and in the process they have lots of fun, making the classes incredibly popular among the target audience of under 5s.

By the time our trial class had finished, Baby Girl kept saying ‘I want to do more Monkey Music’ and we left with a brand new pink monkey (available to buy at the venue or online), which had to go with her to nursery the next day.

Visit the Monkey Music website to book a free trial class. Classes are available in a variety of locations in South West London, including Chelsea, Fulham, Pimlico, South Kensington and Battersea, and the weekly classes are aimed at babies and young children aged 3 months to 4 years
