Review: In the Night Garden Live in Richmond Old Deer Park for a magical family day out

‘Can we go next time too?’
‘Just you and me?’
‘No, me, Daddy, Mummy and Baby Brother’

After Baby Girl returned home from In the Night Garden Live in Richmond Old Deer Park on Friday, she dived into the In the Night Garden goody bag we had bought while chatting about how Makka Pakka had lost his sponge during the show she’d just been to see.

She was very excited and clearly didn’t want to miss the next In the Night Garden Live tour–and she didn’t want any of us to do so either. In her mind, In the Night Garden Live, which we’d received tickets for to review, was so brilliant it should be experienced by the whole family.

Next year I think Baby Boy, who will then be 1-year-old, will be the biggest fan of In the Night Garden Live out of the four of us. The stage adaptation of popular CBeebies show In the Night Garden includes charming characters with impressive costumes and features their memorable songs and easy-to-follow dance routines, making the live show fantastic for introducing babies and young children to theatre.

The show also stands out because it is held in a purpose-built showdome where everyone sits relatively close to the stage as there are only 13 rows, and the family-friendly venue therefore feels quite intimate despite seating a large number of people.

In addition, I like the fact that there are add-ons on offer when buying tickets, such as goody bags, which this time included an In the Night Garden wind mill, tableware, sticker book, story book, a cuddly toy, a DVD and more, and character meet-and-greets.

It is easy to return home feeling you’ve had a day out in a dream world after taking a young family to In the Night Garden Live.

In the Night Garden Live is on tour and playing in Richmond Old Deer Park until Saturday 4 July. When I last checked tickets (starting from £17.50) were still available for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances.
