Family life in London

Before Baby Girl was born, friends kept telling us that we had to prepare for our lives to change. But no one mentioned that it was simply a scheduling change.

With Baby Girl in tow, Saturday dinner has become Sunday lunch. And this appears to be a well-known fact among Londoners with kids. On a Sunday afternoon, families turn up to restaurants the parents would have previously wanted to go to on a Saturday or a Friday evening.

We just made this discovery on Sunday. Our maternity consultant Hattie is on holiday, and midwife and baby expert Vicki Scott, who runs New Baby Company, has been helping us in her absence. Hattie and Vicki have helped us establish a sleep routine for Baby Girl.

When Vicki helped us on Friday, she reviewed Baby Girl’s sleep and feed patterns, and Baby Girl is now slowly starting to follow her routine. By Sunday, we felt so confident that she was getting a hang of it that we booked a table at Eight Over Eight in Chelsea.

Eight Over Eight has never struck me as a typical family place, but at lunchtime on Sunday we would almost have looked out of place without Baby Girl fast asleep next to our table.

And since Sunday lunch is clearly a family event, I guess it would be cruel not to take her out every week since she did so well. Next week it’s Medlar, and then it’s Harwood Arms. Only the best for Baby Girl.
