Top tips for introducing baby to water

I was always excited about meeting Baby Spa founder Laura Sevenus when I took Baby Girl to this peaceful Kensington gem for spa sessions when she was under 6 months old, and that’s why I’ve now asked her to share some of her top tips for introducing baby to water.

When is the best time to introduce baby to water?
Laura Sevenus, founder, Baby Spa: The best time to introduce babies to water, or should we say ‘re-introduce’, is from birth.

What are the top three benefits of introducing baby to water at an early age?
Sevenus: 1. Water is your baby’s natural element where they feel comforted. Your baby will relax and in a warm bath, before bed time.

2. The hydrostatic pressure of water helps relieve winds and symptoms of colic.

3. Early and regular contact with water supports your baby’s relationship to water as they beome to know it. This makes later swimming a lot easier.

What is the best way to help baby overcome a fear of water if baby gets upset in the bath?
Sevenus: If your baby becomes upset in the bath, the water may be too warm or too cool? Also, make sure that your baby’s body is under the water and not exposed to the air. Evapouration of water from the skin has a cooler effect?
