When to start taking baby to Monkey Music classes

Yesterday Baby Boy experienced his very first snow. It wasn’t the real thing, but it was a super soft, neatly ironed, fluffy white blanket resembling snow. We had been invited to a baby Monkey Music class, where Baby Boy could start celebrating his very first Christmas in true Chelsea-style.

It seems like the most popular way to introduce baby to music in this part of London is by taking a Monkey Music class, and going to the class yesterday, reminded me how brilliant these 30-minute long sessions are for babies aged three months and older.

I sometimes feel guilty about not doing enough baby activities with five-month-old Baby Boy, who I feel has been very ready for a class like Monkey Music from when he was around 16 weeks old. I can see how much he enjoys Monkey Music now, and taking him to the class is all about him and his development.

Jayne, who taught the class yesterday and runs Monkey Music in Chelsea and Westminster, is fantastic at remembering all the babies names, making everyone feel welcome and talking mums and carers through the reason for doing the different musical activities. With her background as a professional musician, she is also a great singer and excellent at entertaining little ones and giving them the first introduction to the world of music and rhythm.

In addition, I like the focus on hygiene at Monkey Music in Chelsea, and I love how all the props look nice and clean and baby instruments are sterilised in between use since babies usually put them straight in their mouth.

The other great thing about Monkey Music is the large variety of props used. Although it’s good that some songs are the same every time, I like that there’s also something new each time I come, keeping it interesting for not only Baby Boy but also myself!

The Monkey Music Chelsea Winter Wonderland Workshops on Saturday 28 November at Cineworld in Fulham Road had sold out, but there’s now one more workshop added at 12.30pm for babies aged 3 to 12 months. To secure a place, call Monkey Music on 020 8767 9827 to book. Monkey Music is also holding a taster session at the Brompton Library on 2 December.
