Going private for Meningitis B vaccine in London

When meeting up with another family for brunch on Saturday, there was one thing me and the other mum couldn’t avoid talking about considering the recent focus on the Meningitis B vaccine in the media. We had both gone private for the Meningitis B vaccine a couple of years back, making the decision to give it to our children before it was introduced on the UK vaccination schedule.

I know many parents with children born before the Meningitis B vaccine was introduced are now seeking advice on private options, and the most read article on Mummy in the City in the past week has become one I wrote in 2014 about my decision to go private and places to take the Meningitis B vaccine privately in London (read the post HERE).

At that time, it was Big Girl who had the first dose of the vaccine at the age of 18 months, and she had this at The Women’s Wellness Centre in Chelsea with paediatrician Dr Kingi Aminu. I’ve gone private for vaccinations for Baby Boy too, and he had the Meningitis B vaccine at The Smart Clinics in Chelsea with Dr David Smart.

Baby Boy had a bad reaction to the first dose of the vaccine, with a high fever in the evening on the day of the vaccination and a little bump on the injection site.

It wasn’t our best day, but our favourite doctors have always been happy to listen to our concerns and give advice.

When going private, patients would usually pay an appointment fee and the fee for the vaccine. The price for vaccines can vary significantly, and we paid £175 for the Meningitis B vaccine at The Smart Clinics. Call in advance to ensure vaccines you need are in stock or can be ordered in
