Natasha Coote styling session for post baby summer style

After Baby Girl was born and grandparents came to visit it was not the baby everyone felt was in need of a wardrobe fix. It was me.

It can be difficult to find clothes to wear after giving birth as the body has changed once again, and I’ve been bloated and still had a bump that I’ve no longer wanted to show off after both my pregnancies.

That’s why I was excited to visit Natasha Coote’s boutique in Parsons Green again on Monday when Baby Boy was two weeks old, as the shop offers free personal styling sessions and I’ve always found the staff, who are stylists, to be fantastic at putting together flattering and interesting outfits to suit my needs.

This time the focus of the styling session was on a summer wardrobe for post-baby body. Natasha helped me understand what’s important to look for when shopping at this stage in my life, and here are some of the things she taught me about style for the post baby months:

Shoes are important because jewellery might be in the way for breastfeeding, so to make an outfit more interesting you can have fun with shoes. For summer, shoes with mesh can be good for warm days as an alternative to sandals.

If it is too early to buy trousers and you feel more comfortable in leggings, it’s worth considering buying different coloured leggings for summer, including some with prints. For jeans, grey can be a great option.

Classic pieces with feminine details (see white top), interesting zippers or a metallic fabric, for example, are ideal when you’re not wearing much jewellery.

To avoid only having to wear nursing tops, consider using a special breastfeeding cover or large scarf (see pink scarf below), which gives more flexibility in terms of what to wear. Floaty tops can be ideal for breastfeeding and may make you feel more comfortable than tight tops.

Keep jackets tailored to feel smaller, and show off slim parts of the body, such as ankles, by folding up trousers. See-through fabrics for shirt arms, for example, are also good for showing arms and creating a slim line.
