Understanding how to pack for a baby

When Daddy T and I first went on holiday together nine years ago, the guy behind us in the check-in queue asked if we were collecting stones. Since then I’ve not made the mistake of travelling with a new pair of shoes for every day of the week and ending up with seriously heavy luggage.

But now we’re back to being the ones in need of the ‘Heavy’ luggage tags. The difference is that it’s not because of me this time. It’s because of Baby Girl.

When we were going away for a long weekend, her tiny, little outfits filled my carry-on luggage. There was no way I was going to risk losing her safe and germ-free clothes, which had been washed in Ecover non-bio laundry liquid.

Instead, my clothes had to be checked in together with all the baby equipment we needed to take along. Her bulky car seat was too big to bring on the plane, or fit in one of our normal bags, so we bought a JL Childress Gate Check cover to pack it in.

In addition, we ended up having to check in the stroller and a bag we usually only bring out when travelling home for Christmas.

I felt that we were well-prepared having invested in travel equipment, such as the compact Babytec electric steam steriliser to save space, but there’s still so much stuff. And that’s despite the fact that I didn’t bring a single pair of extra shoes this time. Not even the adorable ones that Baby Girl owns.
