Visiting Richmond with children

Richmond Riverside Giraffe

One of my favourite places to visit in London in summer is Richmond Riverside. It’s a 30-minute drive from us, but we like being by the river and we’ve gone down there to celebrate my birthday in the past.

Now I also think Richmond makes a great place for an excursion for Baby Girl and me, and here’s a mini-guide:

River walk
On Wednesday, I took Baby Girl for a walk along the river, starting by the bridge. There were lots of families and mums with buggies, and I think it’s a great place to take children for a walk on a sunny day. It feels like it’s so far from the city!

Rowing
I can’t wait for Baby Girl to get a bit older, so we can hire a rowing boat. When we were there on Wednesday, the flat-water conditions meant it looked like a perfect day for rowing with children and Baby Girl was dragging me down to see the boats. It’s very scenic and seemed like a fun day out with older children! (You can hire a rowing boat by the bridge)

Giraffe
Baby Girl and I went to a blogger lunch at Giraffe in Hill Street, which is a short walk from Richmond Riverside. The staff at Giraffe were super-friendly, and this restaurant is definitely great for children. There’s a cute kids menu, and Baby Girl had her own little orange juice, as well as colouring sheets and crayons to keep her busy. She was also given a pink plastic giraffe to have in her cup, and I ordered grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetables for her. I would also consider taking her to Giraffe Richmond for breakfast, as they open at 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends and bank holidays. The restaurant has high chairs and baby changing facilities.

Gaucho
For alfresco dining and views of the river, Gaucho steak house is brilliant. It’s perfect for summer date nights, and I’m sure we’ll also take Baby Girl there for lunch one day – but she’s yet to experience Gaucho Richmond.

I usually park in a pay and display bay on Hill Rise when visiting Richmond. There’s a 2-hour maximum stay on these bays.

How timely! My mummy friends and I were thinking of going to Richmond this week! Also, Bill’s is a very child friendly restaurant as well (near Petite Bateau)!

Great that you’re going this week! Yes, Bill’s is lovely. We went to Bill’s on Hill Rise for a babyccino and latte before heading down to the river on Wednesday. Bill’s is also excellent for breakfast, and I love their cute kids breakfast menu.

We made it to Richmond last Thursday on the most beautiful day! We had lunch at Bill’s and then stopped for a drink at Gaucho. Both were very child friendly and had baby changing facilities and high chairs. There is also room at both restaurants to keep your buggies nearby. Thanks again for the post!
