3 books and games to prepare the family for Easter

If you’re preparing an Easter basket or Easter surprise for your children, here are a few Easter-themed suggestions:

The First Egg Hunt by Adam and Charlotte Guillain (Egmont, £6.99)
For a funny Easter-themed picture book, I would recommend The First Egg Hunt by Adam and Charlotte Guillain (Egmont, £6.99), which I reviewed last year. I love how this hilarious, rhyming story comes up with a sweet explanation for the Easter egg hunt tradition. In the book, Easter Bunny first gets all the credit for the Easter eggs despite the Easter Chick having worked hard to make them. Easter Chick then hatches a cunning plan, which accidentally turns into the first ever Easter Egg hunt. In addition to being a charming story for Easter with delightful illustrations by Pippa Curnick, I like the focus on teamwork and friendship in The First Egg Hunt.

Egg Hunt Mini Game from Orchard Toys
Orchard Toys mini games come in compact packaging and the series includes everything from memory games to a version of snakes and ladders. There’s an Easter-themed one called Egg Hunt, which is recommended for children aged 3 to 6 and can help promote counting skills and number recognition for numbers 1 to 6. I’ve previously received some Orchard Toys mini games (£5 each) to review, but we’ve also bought several other games from the series ourselves and the fun Egg Hunt mini game was a gift from a friend.

Little Grey Rabbit: Moldy Warp the Mole by Alison Uttley (£5.99, Templar Publishing)
Last year we received some new editions of Alison Uttley’s sweet and innocent Little Grey Rabbit books to review, and I think the cute, yellow, 48-page long hardcover book about Moldy Warp and the Mole makes for ideal Easter reading. This classic Little Grey Rabbit book (£5.99, Templar Publishing) tells the story about Moldy Warp who goes digging to find the missing part of a mosaic, and it features classic illustrations by Margaret Tempest. It would be easy to pack for anyone travelling over the school holiday too.
