3 fun ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in South West London without booking

Sammy Duder PaintingGet crafty in Battersea
When Grandma N is next in town, I’ve promised to take her to all the fun places where we can paint and decorate pottery and cookies. Biscuiteers Icing Cafe on Northcote Road (or in Notting Hill) is a definite stop on our tour, and since this lovely cafe where you can also decorate your own biscuits has a drop-in service, I think it’s also a brilliant place to take mums today for a fun family activity. It’s also worth checking if local pottery studios Sammy Duder (see picture), which offers a unique writing service to make pottery really special, or Pottery Cafe have any openings for pottery decorating sessions today, as it can be great fun to paint together and create lasting memories from Morher’s Day 2015.

Take a park day in Eel Brook Common
Today is the last day of the current children’s fun fair in Eel Brook Common, and after having spent three afternoons there in the last week, I can confirm it’s excellent for little ones (probably ideal for children aged around 3), and as a mum I always find it amusing to see Baby Girl’s big smile when going on a fun fair ride or buying a balloon. Eelbrook on one corner of the park has tables both outside and inside, and Baby Girl and I love stopping there for a hot chocolate and pastry, but I was recently also told by another Fulham mum that the food menu there is amazing too. Alternatively, St Clements on New Kings Road is only a stone throw away and offers a yummy weekend brunch menu including healthy options, as well as delicious cakes.

Go wild with animal excursions
The opportunities to see animals in and around London are endless, and on beautiful spring days a family day out in Battersea Park Zoo or London Zoo can make for a fantastic Mother’s Day outing keeping the whole family entertained. I also love going to farms like Bocketts Farm and Hobbledown (see picture of pigs above)–the first one bringing more countryside charm and the last one offering huge play areas.
