3 London museum activities to explore from home

While we’re eagerly awaiting museums reopening, here are some of the activities I’ve found while looking at London attractions family resources from home:

Old Royal Naval College
Last year, Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich introduced Draw with Nick draw-along videos with children’s illustrator Nick Ellwood. The content ties in with the venue’s impressive Painted Hall and the stories related to the historic site, as well as the upcoming exhibition Mischief and Misadventure, featuring artworks and illustrations by Ellwood (Illustration above: Life at Sea by Nick Ellwood).

The Charles Dickens Museum
To explore London’s Charles Dickens Museum from home, there are a number of online activity guides that tie in to different rooms in the London house where Charles Dickens lived with his young family for several years in the late 1830s. For budding performers, one of the suggested activities includes printing a Dickensian beard template to wear and doing a dramatic reading of quotes from Oliver Twist. The museum also has different online workshops scheduled for next month, as well as in-person family museum sessions for up to six people per tour for May half term.

Design Museum
In the last school holiday, I discovered Kensington’s Design Museum had a number of activity resources for families to explore from home. When browsing, some of my favourites included a carton to fold and decorate for aspiring packaging designers, a town to build and rocking toys to create. There are printables to download for activities, and some activity suggestions include video instructions.
