Review: Beaba Babycook Plus for stress-free weaning with home cooked baby food

Babycook Plus BabyWhen we had friends staying on New Year’s Eve I have a feeling they were a bit surprised to see our cooking equipment. Daddy T was using the Beaba Babycook Plus when preparing dinner for the four of us, and for a couple without children I would imagine this could have looked a tiny bit worrying.

But dinner that day turned out brilliantly. Just like Baby Boy’s dinners are every day now. We received a Beaba Babycook Plus 4 in 1 food processor, which steams, blends, defrosts and reheats, to review, and it makes it incredibly easy for me to prepare Baby Boy’s favourite menu, which I’ve now realised consists of a seasoned savoury pure with meat from Randalls and apple and pear pure for dessert.

Seven-month-old Baby Boy usually has both sweet and savoury for every meal, which makes the Beaba Babycook Duo ideal, as it comes with two jugs for steaming and blending. I can prepare a fruit pure in one jug and do vegetables with fish, meat or chicken in the other jug, or when I create large batches, it’s also useful to be able to fill up two jugs with different ingredients.

It’s very user friendly. The jugs are marked with 1, 2, 3, and before steaming I fill water up to level 1, which represents the shortest steaming process, or level 3 to steam the contents for longer.

Beaba Babycook Plus PureI then pour the water into the machine, fill up the steamer basket in the jug with my ingredients and click the start button. The machine beeps when the steaming process has finished, and I then pour the contents from the steamer basket and into the bottom of the jug where there’s a blender blade, turn the wheel on the Babycook on the side where there’s a blender, and keep it turned until I have a smooth puree for Baby Boy.

I also often add vegetables for our own dinners when cooking for Baby Boy, and simply remove some steamed broccoli and carrots for us, for example, before blending Baby Boy’s ingredients.

By using Babycook, I can spend more time focusing on my children, as I can get other things done in the kitchen while the steamer is on and I keep the washing up to a minimum by steaming ingredients together in the jugs and not using several saucepans and a hand mixer.

For parents who want to feed baby home cooked food and aim to steam food to retain the nutritional value, I think it’s important to see how this can be achieved without too much hassle, and that’s when Beaba Babycook can make a good investment.
