Make pencil pots with decorative tapes

On a cold and blustery day like today, we’re very tempted to stay indoors in the afternoon, and here’s one idea for a craft project that we’ve tried and tested numerous times before: Making a pencil pot.

All you need is a few different washi tapes and a tin.

Decorate the tin with the tapes by alternating between different ones to create a pattern or a colourful design.

I’ve previously bought round, paint-pot style, 8-centimetre tall, lever lid tins and a mix of washi tapes in seasonal prints, glitter and metallic colours online. These tins don’t have any sharp edges and they don’t break, which works well for young children.

The craft activity would, however, also work with a similar-sized jar/tin that you might have lying around at home as long as the tape sticks to the surface.

For us, the result has been fun pencil pots that can be used to keep the children’s desks tidy!

We also regularly use decorative tapes to make bookmarks by cutting out pieces of paper to cover in colourful tapes.
