Choosing the right buggy accessories

Bugaboo ParasolOn Wednesday, a pregnant friend stopped by after work and we talked through what she needed to buy to prepare for her little one’s arrival. I started listing buggy accessories, but perhaps what I really should have said was ‘one of everything’.

It certainly feels like we’re buying one of everything sometimes. For our Bugaboo Cameleon, which comes with a raincover, it simply wasn’t enough to buy a cup holder. We’ve built up quite the collection of Bugaboo accessories.

I was back at Harrods last weekend to buy a new cup holder after I’d managed to break the first one, and I also picked up a bamboo seat liner and parasol for the summer.

Baby Girl already had the sunshade and the breezy sun canopy, but a friend had the parasol. After one walk seeing the other baby sitting happy in the shade behind the parasol, and Baby Girl, who is quite sensitive to sunlight, sitting in the sun crying and moving around, I was sold. Baby Girl really did need a parasol too.

I guess Daddy T should just hope Bugaboo doesn’t release more accessories in the coming years.

I follow your blog, with interest, and having to get the parasol or the breezy canopy I was wondering what your views were… Which one is better for keeping the sun out? Do we need both?

    Have a good weekend!

I’ve used the parasol a lot more than the sun canopy now, but they’re actually very different products. The sun canopy is good to use in warm weather, and we were recommended to buy it if we were to spend some time in a sunny country, for example. It doesn’t provide any more shade than the normal hood, but I’ll probably change to this hood in June if we have a good summer this year. The parasol is great for when baby is in the seated position in the buggy and doesn’t want sun in her face – even if it’s not in the middle of the summer. I find it very useful, but I guess some prefer the full sunshade instead. We use SnoozeShade on our travel stroller, which is good because it makes it dark as well as protects baby from the sun. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the informative reply… I have a feeling we’ll end up with both!

True – it’s always like that! But if I had to choose one, I think I would have gone for the parasol, as it’s more of an effort to change the hood. The parasol is very easy to take on and off. Good luck!
