Using a professional babyproofing company in London

TV with anti-tip straps

Grandma N and Grandpa P didn’t seem very excited when I first told them we were babyproofing our home with the help from an expert who had come recommended by a friend. They didn’t really appear to understand what I was on about. But when I spoke to them on Skype yesterday, they seemed rather impressed.

I walked around the home with my laptop, showing them everything Chris and his colleague from Baby Safe Homes had fixed–a service I had received a discount on to review for the blog. There were so many little things that had been done in two and a half hours following an initial consultation to make our home safer for Baby Girl, and it was practically impossible not to be impressed.

Two chest of drawers, a huge mirror, a TV and a metal shoe shelf had all been fixed to the wall or secured with straps. Three blind cords had been secured, and electrical equipment in the living room had been attached with velcro.

In the kitchen, there were a new oven guard and cooker guard and some new locks. All over the place, there were a whole lot of corner cushions, one corner that had been sanded down, cords that had been tidied up, and in one room, a cord had been enclosed with trunking.

According to the Baby Safe Homes website, most jobs average between £300-500. My total estimate before my agreed discount was a little bit lower, but we had done some work ourselves. We had also previously bought a lot of babyproofing equipment, and Chris and his colleague were happy to use some of the things we had bought.

But I wish we hadn’t tried to do this ourselves at all. I’ve wasted money on some products that didn’t fit, and not even Daddy T would claim he’s a DIY expert. For us, it would have made much more sense to call Baby Safe Homes when we first started thinking about babyproofing. And if we move houses, that’s exactly what we’ll do.
