When mum tries to keep the family warm

‘Maybe we do that at home, Mummy’

On Sunday three-year-old Big Girl was not impressed with me.

We were standing outside Waitrose in Parsons Green waiting for Daddy T who’d gone in to do some shopping. It was feeling quite chilly and I started telling Big Girl about how I’d managed to keep warm when working as a ski instructor.

I told her about a Norwegian action song from the Winter Olympics in Norway in 94, which me and my friend had been singing to the group of children we’d been teaching to ski. I wanted to sing it to Big Girl and started jumping and waving my arms to get her up and moving and ensure she wouldn’t get cold while we were waiting on the pavement.

Big Girl instantly recognised that this was not cool though. She was quick to sit back down on the buggy board where she’d found a relaxing seat, and clearly wanted me to shut up ASAP.

My fun keep-warm song worked wonders in snowy Norway in the early 2000s, but apparently it wasn’t as fitting for Parsons Green in 2016.
